Ranchi, May 6: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has recovered a huge amount of unaccounted cash during raids conducted at multiple locations in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The cash recovery is allegedly linked to close associates of Jharkhand’s Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam.
The ED’s investigation is linked to a case against Virendra Ram, the former Chief Engineer of the state’s Rural Development Department, who was arrested in February 2023 for alleged irregularities in awarding government contracts. Ram is accused of taking commissions from contractors in exchange for tenders.
Visuals from the scene showed ED officials counting huge piles of cash, mostly in Rs 500 denomination. The amount is estimated to be Rs 20-30 crore. Valuable Jewellery was also recovered during the searches.
