Rongmil murder case: Civil bodies demand compensation for victim’s family

Goalpara, Apr 21: The All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU) has demanded compensation for the families of the three victims who were murdered and buried in Rongmil, in Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills, on April 16.

The organization has sent memorandums to Assam, Meghalaya, and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, seeking compensation for the victims’ families. They also called for justice and the immediate arrest of those accused of the heinous crime.

They appealed to the government to provide adequate protection to the people and traders from both Assam and Meghalaya, who frequently travel for their day-to-day business activities.

The Garo Hills region of Meghalaya shares a border with the neighboring districts of Goalpara and South Salmara – Mankachar in Assam.

In response to rumors suggesting that vehicles traveling from Garo Hills were attacked in Goalpara district, the student bodies clarified that no such situation occurred. They also urged people not to spread misinformation and to maintain peace and tranquility.

They emphasized that the crime should be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate legal action should be taken promptly.
