Sathegre FC Crowned Champions of Tura Football League 2nd Division Final

Tura, Sep 25: Sathegre FC won the Tura Football League 2nd Division title, defeating Waram Dipogre ESYC (Evening Sports Youth Club) by 3-2 in penalty shootout. The final match was held at the Chandmary Artificial Turf on Thursday.

After the 0-0 deadlock in the first half, Waram Dipogre’s Nikchak A Sangma broke the impasse with a goal in the 41st minute of the second half. Sathegre FC soon retaliated with Balsan M Marak scoring the equaliser in the 50th minute, ending the match in a 1-1 draw in regulated time.

The deadlock continued even in the extra time, leading to a deciding penalty shootout. Sathegre FC ultimately won the shootout 3-2, after scoring 3 out of their 5 attempts, while Waram Dipogre ESYC could only convert 2 of their 5 shots.

Greanbirth M Marak of Sathegre FC received the last yellow card of the league for a foul.

Sathegre FC was awarded the coveted championship trophy and a prize amount of ₹70,000, while the runner’s up Waram Dipogre ESYC received ₹50,000 along with the runner’s up trophy.

The event saw the presence of Arbinstone B. Marak (MLA 48-SELSELLA Constituency & Chairman, Meghalaya State Development Reforms Commission) as the Chief Guest. He was joined by Jasper P Marak, Retd. Deputy Director, DSYA; Saljagring M Marak, DSO, Tura; and members of the District Football Association (DFA).

​In his address, Arbinstone extended his best wishes to both teams for a fair and exciting game. He also took the opportunity to reiterate the various schemes introduced by the Government of Meghalaya aimed at upscaling the sports scenario across the state.

Looking ahead, the District Football Association announced plans to start Tura Youth League for players under 17 and an open to all Women’s League for the 2025-26 season.
