Gangtok, Feb 16: Opposition legislator Pawan Kumar Chamling has alleged that the selling of government’s stakes at Teesta Urja Limited has cost Sikkim a loss of over Rs 3 lakh Crores. The Sikkim Democratic Front supremo addressing a public gathering in Makha, Gangtok District on Thursday asserted on the previous ‘Teesta Urja project to have been the best project in the State’.
Chamling in his address stated, “Teesta Urja being sold to Greenco is a loss of Rs. 3 lakh crores to Sikkim. In 90 years it’s valuation could reach Rupees 30 lakh crores. We had created the best project, it was more like golden goose for the state. Yet the government sold the project. Now, we have no place to receive revenue in the State”.
Chamling also took the podium to reveal other corruptions of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha government. He highlighted how the government has taken Rs. 21,000 crore in loan. “Today Sikkim treasury is empty, there was Rs. 500 crores as back up that too has been used. If this is the case then a day will come where government employees won’t even get salary. We had surplus budget before now we are in loan. Even the CM Discretionary Fund, over Rs. 100 crores has vanished. In the recent supplementary budget only Rs. 3 crores has been proposed for Aama scheme”, said Chamling.
On the recent regularisation policy declared by SKM government, Chamling asserted on SKM not having an employment policy. He said, “Golay doesn’t have a policy. There are 1.20 lakh people who are unemployed. Creating of posts in the government doesn’t guarantee. It is same as a photocopy of currency, it doesn’t work. Job opportunity must be created. There is no mention of salaries for new regularized employees in the supplementary budget recently. We will bring sustainable mega employment scheme, we will reveal the same in our manifesto over the next month”.
Chamling boasted of having given government jobs to over 1 lakh individuals during his government, claiming some of whom have gone on to become department heads. While claiming how every Sikkimese has availed benefits from the private and service sectors of the State. “The only thing Golay has created are youths with PHD in violence. Sikkim Police is unable to work properly as the SKM government dictates whom to arrest and whom not to. Currently there is no Kanoon Raj in Sikkim, it is Gunda Raj as they dictate who gets arrested and who doesn’t get arrested”.
Calling for 2024 elections to be the last lifeline for people to save Sikkim, Chamling welcomed Former Joint Action Council General Secretary Keshav Sapkota, Former retired bureaucrat CP Dhakal, Former Sikkim Newa Guthi President Nirmal Pradhan, Former Chairman Binod Basnett, and many others to SDF party at Makha.
