Sensitisation on TB and Health Camp Held in Rongjeng as a part of 100 Day TB Campaign

Tura, January 29: The District Tuberculosis Office, East Garo Hills District, conducted a Sensitisation Talk cum Health Camp in Rongjeng.

The highlight of the event was the inspiring testimony of Nengsil Marak, a TB Champion, who shared his personal battle with tuberculosis. “I am a TB survivor. I was cured, and so can you!” he declared, urging TB patients to adhere to prescribed treatments and seek support. His story served as a beacon of hope for many battling the disease.

Dr. C. Pearly Sangma, District Tuberculosis Officer, highlighted the importance of community awareness under the newly launched “100 Day Intensified TB Campaign” of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP). She emphasized that the campaign, initiated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, focuses on TB sensitisation, screening, and early detection in vulnerable populations.

Jim M Sangma, MLA was present for the event. Health officials, community leaders, and TB survivors actively participated in the sensitization program.

Dr. Cruzies Elmina N. Sangma, District Medical and Health Officer, East Garo Hills, affirmed the department’s commitment to early detection and treatment. She urged community members to support health workers in identifying and assisting TB patients through home visits and medical camps.

Reuben Ch Momin, SDO Civil, Rongjeng, emphasized the role of Village Health Councils (VHCs) in the fight against TB. He encouraged them to include TB awareness in their regular meetings and take proactive steps at the grassroots level, much like their response during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Community Action for a TB-Free Meghalaya

Addressing the gathering, Jim M Sangma, Honourable MLA, urged people to come forward for free screening and testing without fear or hesitation. He stressed the importance of early diagnosis and community support in the battle against TB.

The event concluded with the distribution of food baskets to 15 ongoing TB patients and free health screenings for vulnerable individuals. The initiative aimed to ensure proper nutrition and healthcare access for TB patients, reinforcing the commitment to a TB-Free Meghalaya.
