Shillong, Sept 26: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge District Council Affairs (DCA) Prestone Tynsong on Friday confirmed that the resignation letter tendered by the KHADC chief Shemborlang Rynjah has been sent to the Governor CH Vijayashankar with a request that he allows Rynjah to continue as caretaker until a full-fledged CEM election is held.
“Yesterday itself, we have sent the resignation letter to the Governor and we have already recommended the Governor to allow the outgoing KHADC chief Shemborlang Rynjah to be a caretaker till the full fledged CEM election is held,” Tynsong told reporters.
Asked if the National People’s Party (NPP) will set up a candidate for CEM post, the deputy chief minister however said, “I am not the member of district council. The question of only NPP does not arise. Since we are together in the opposition, I think this issue you can discuss with the opposition leader in the KHADC.”
The election to the CEM post will be held on September 30.
The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has nominated Nongthymmai MDC Winston Tony Lyngdoh as KHADC CEM designate.
