Shillong, March 19: Shillong-based journalist Princess Giri Rashir won the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism in the Broadcast category for Environment, Science, and Technology Reporting.
The award given for stories done in 2021 and 2022 was presented by Chief Guest Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, at an event in Delhi on Tuesday.
Along with the Award, Rashir also received one lakh rupees cash prize.
Rashir’s EastMojo documentary titled “Choking amid coking: Meghalaya coke factories leave no room to breathe” gained recognition for highlighting the severe impacts of illegal coke factories present in the state of Meghalaya.
Instituted by the Ramnath Goenka Foundation, the awards acknowledge and honor the best of journalism across 13 categories, including investigative journalism, sports, politics & government, books, feature writing, and regional language.
The jury for the 17th edition of the awards included Justice B N Srikrishna, Prof. (Dr) C Raj Kumar, Dr SY Quraishi, and K G Suresh.
