Shillong, April 12: In a late-night crackdown responding to repeated public complaints, Shillong police conducted a vice raid across key areas of the city, detaining 16 individuals for alleged involvement in public solicitation and nuisance.
The operation, carried out around 11:30 PM on April 11, was led by Additional SP (Traffic) Lovish Garg, and SDPO Pynursla B. Wanswet, MPS, along with other police personnel. The raid covered prominent locations including Police Bazar, the Presbyterian Church vicinity, IGP Point, and other busy public spaces.
According to police, the action followed multiple complaints from residents about obscene behaviour, solicitation, and disturbances in these areas. During the raid, individuals were allegedly found engaging in prostitution and approaching passersby through gestures and direct solicitation, causing inconvenience and obstruction in public spaces.

Police further stated that such activities were affecting the decorum of key public areas, including places of religious importance.
All 16 individuals were taken into custody, and a case has been registered against them under Section 110 of the Meghalaya Police Act. Further investigation is underway.
