Shillong, Dec 13: Shillong Traffic Police (STP) on Wednesday crushed 181 modified silencers which were seized since August, 2023 till date.

The operation, conducted at the Police Reserve in Shillong, was carried out in the presence of notable figures, including SP East Khasi Hills Sylvester Nongtnger, SP City Vivek Syiem, SP Traffic K Prasad, and others.

Highlighting the severity of the issue, SP Sylvester Nongtnger revealed that the police had initially detected nearly 300 modified silencers. Initially providing the owners an opportunity to rectify the violations by fixing the issues, the police took a firm stance when individuals failed to comply, leading to the seizure of the silencers.

The crackdown resulted in the realisation of an impressive Rs 12 lakh in fines, emphasising the authorities’ commitment to enforcing noise regulations in the region.
