Shullai met UNESCO India’s representative to accord global recognition to Kongthong Village

Shillong, March 7: BJP legislator from South Shillong constituency Sanbor Shullai has sought the support of Professor J.S Rajput, India’s representative to the Executive Board in UNESCO to accord intangible cultural Heritage status to Kongthong village by UNESCO.

Shullai met Rajput at his residence in Delhi as the MLA requested him (Rajput) to visit kongthong village soon so that the village can get global attention. Professor J.S Rajput has assured to take the matter to UNESCO through the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

Later in this regard, Shullai also met MP from Rajya Sabha Rakesh Sinha in New Delhi and expressed gratefulness for adopting kongthong village.

The MP from Rajya sabha has assured all possible help to kongthong village and has ensured that there will sustainable livelihood programme for self-employment however not affecting the cultural heritage. The MP also said that rest of the country should learn from Northeast regarding secularism and giving equal opportunity to female gender.

Shullai said that he has invited Both MP Rakesh Sinha and Professor J.S Rajput to kongthong for global Recognition.
