Guwahati, Feb 2: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has revealed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the recent padyatra conducted by Rahul Gandhi in Guwahati. This padyatra resulted in a disturbance of law and order in the city, necessitating an official investigation.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, CM Sarma said, “Two cases have been registered, and for the Guwahati case, a SIT team was formed to investigate Rahul Gandhi’s padyatra. Already, the team has started an investigation. We have identified the “body double” used by Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam. We have confirmed that on most of the roads, Rahul Gandhi was not cheering the crowd; his ‘body double’ was cheering the crowd. After the controversy, the ‘body double’ quietly left the Guwahati.”

“Without accompanying him to the next level, the ‘body double’ left Guwahati for Delhi. The Guwahati case was under SIT, and the Jorhat case has been investigated in a normal way. “After the Prime Minister leaves Guwahati, I will reveal the ‘body double’ of Rahul Gandhi,” Sarma said.

On January 23, tensions flared in Guwahati as Congress workers clashed with police following the denial of permission for Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra to enter the city through its main routes.

The confrontation occurred after the Assam government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, directed the yatra to steer clear of the city and use the Guwahati bypass instead. Police stopped the yatra from entering the city, triggering protests from Congress workers.

Visuals from the scene showed a number of Congress supporters, many of them bearing party flags, tussling with police personnel, and attempting to break barricades while Rahul Gandhi looked on from a distance.
