Shillong, Sept 10: The skeletal remains discovered in a forest area near the 6th Battalion, Umran Niangbyrnai, in Ri Bhoi district, have been identified as those of a man from Ummar village who went missing on June 11. 2025.
The remains were found by woodcutters on Tuesday evening, and the villagers subsequently informed the Umsning Police Station.
The police acted swiftly, recovering the skeletal remains and conducting further investigation.

The identity of the deceased was confirmed through personal belongings, including his clothes and mobile phone, as well as the SIM card registered in his name, police said.
Family members, including Andreas Tron, verified that the remains belonged to the missing man, they said.
The man was reported missing after he alighted from a vehicle while returning from Shillong to his native village in Ri Bhoi.
According to police, the exact circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death are still under investigation.
