Shillong, Sept 10: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday informed that in the past five years, the government has recruited 500 doctors, with some undergoing training to reduce the shortage of doctors in Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs).
This move has led to significant improvement in the healthcare sector, Sangma told the Assembly while replying to a cut motion.

The government has established a recruitment board for the health department, which has been a landmark decision in tackling the shortage of healthcare professionals, he added.
The chief minister however said that despite the progress made, challenges still persist, and there is more work to be done.
He assured that the situation is far better than before and expressed confidence that it will continue to improve in the days to come.
