Shilllong, Feb 4: The Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) has demanded that the government ought to clarify about the amount of cess collected from petrol and diesel tax which the state claims goes to the Education sector.
The president of the association, Aristotle Rymbai spoke to reporters in Shillong on Thursday and said,“It surprised us to know that the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had said that the petrol and diesel cess goes to the Education Department. If that is so, why do we the teachers of SSA, deficit, and adhoc have to face many issues be it with salaries etc?”
He said that the teachers have to make demands and even go to the streets to declare their agitations to press upon the government to give them their due salaries.
He said that the government is yet to pay the salaries of the teachers till the month of January and demanded that the government should be clear whether the petrol and diesel cess goes to payment of salaries.
Rymbai said that in the month of July, the association had submitted a memorandum to the State Project Director appealing to the government to increase the salaries of 12546 teachers to be at par with the pay of teachers in the government schools.
