Shillong, Dec 11: Good news for residents of Meghalaya as it can expect a smooth and uninterrupted electricity supply during Christmas.
In a major relief ahead of the festive season, Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh on Thursday assured that Meghalaya will have uninterrupted electricity power supply during Christmas.
Lyngdoh said the current power situation in the state is “very smooth” and clarified that only routine maintenance or works under ongoing redistribution schemes may require temporary shutdowns.

He added that officials have been instructed to issue advance notice—preferably two to three days—to headmen and consumers before any scheduled outages at the division or subdivision level.
“MeECL on the right track” On the broader financial and operational challenges faced by the Power Department and MeECL, including pending bills and interest burdens, Lyngdoh said both entities are “on the right track.”

He said coordinated efforts are underway to ensure consumers are not affected during peak or off-peak hours and credited recent improvements to the support and cooperation of all stakeholders.
The department, he added, is now focused on streamlining systems and strengthening overall efficiency.
