Shillong, Aug 14: Representatives from State Olympic Associations across India held an informal meeting at the Olympic Bhavan here on Wednesday, in the presence of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Dr. PT Usha, following the IOA’s Special General Meeting.

The gathering lauded the coordination between the IOA, State Olympic Associations, and the Uttarakhand Olympic Association in successfully hosting the 38th National Games. Members also thanked the IOA Games Technical Conduct Committee and the Uttarakhand Department of Youth Affairs and Sports for their role in the event’s smooth execution.

During the meeting, Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) Working President John F. Kharshiing and General Secretary Finely L. Pariat briefed members on preparations for the 39th National Games, scheduled to be held in Meghalaya in February–March 2027.

Kharshiing informed that a preliminary meeting of North East Sports Ministers, Secretaries, and State Olympic Associations was convened in Shillong on July 25, 2025, to discuss the event’s format and sports disciplines, both Olympic and non-Olympic, which could be hosted across Meghalaya and other North Eastern states. He assured that major infrastructure projects are on track for completion by mid-2026.

Earlier, MSOA officials also met IOA CEO Raghuram Iyer to discuss operational and logistical aspects of the 39th National Games.

The meeting concluded with members congratulating Dr. PT Usha for her impactful speech during the passage of the National Sports Governance Bill 2025 in the Rajya Sabha, which they said reflects her commitment to strengthening sports governance in India.
