In response to ongoing ethnic tensions and insurgent activities in Manipur, the Centre on Thursday imposed the draconian Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958 in six areas across 5 valley-based districts of the State to carry out security operations and control the escalating law and order situation in these areas.
Addressing the 78th Foundation Day of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF)—a leading youth organization representing Naga communities across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland—Jamir advocated for the complete removal of AFSPA from Nagaland.
The AFSPA empowers the Army, para-military, and other security forces to arrest a person without a warrant, enter or search premises without a warrant, along with some other actions.
The North East Students Organization (NESO) on Monday demanded the Centre immediately sanction the prosecution of the 21 Para (SF) personnel involved in the Oting massacre and deliver justice to the victims and their families.
