Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple development projects worth ₹23,550 crore in Assam’s Silchar, saying the initiatives will transform the Barak Valley into a major logistics and trade hub for the Northeast and strengthen India’s Act East Policy.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal hailed the Union Cabinet’s approval of a ₹6,957-crore project to widen the Kaliabor–Numaligarh section of NH-715 into a four-lane highway with a 34.5-km elevated corridor across the Kaziranga stretch, calling it a “historic day for Assam.”
The Union Cabinet has approved the widening of the existing Kalibor–Numaligarh section of NH-715 into a four-lane highway, with special wildlife-friendly measures to protect animal movement across the Kaziranga National Park stretch. The ₹6,957-crore project is expected to be a gamechanger for connectivity and conservation in Assam.
