The meeting was attended by 16 organisations of Manipur’s hill based tribal groups areas and six Manipur tribal legislators including 2 ministers besides leaders of the Mizoram NGOs.
The Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) and the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) on Sunday denounced the convening of the 4th session of the 12th Legislative Assembly of Manipur on August 29 since the present situation is not at all conducive for the Kuki-Zo MLAs to attend.
A CoTU leader said that the dawn-to-dusk total shutdown was observed to mark the three-month-long violence and to commemorate the departed Kuki-Zo souls in the violence.
CoTU had earlier served a 48-hour ultimatum to the Central government to book all the culprits involved in the parading of the Kuki-Zo women naked and repeatedly molested before committing the heinous crime of gang-raped on May 4.
