In a significant breakthrough, the Meghalaya Police successfully thwarted a major drug trafficking operation on the evening of June 30, 2023 (Friday) and recovered drugs worth Rs 5 crore, making it one of the biggest hauls in the state.
A Senior Police official said, acting on a tip off, Assam Police's Special Task Force personnel along with the Kamrup police chased the two alleged traffickers on a vehicle and apprehended them.
However, various agencies and the community are working to raise awareness on the issue to educate the youth of the dire consequences of drug abuse or substance abuse.
Addressing the oath taking ceremony of the new CEC, KSU chief Lambokstarwell Marngar said, “We have decided to declare a war against drugs by working together with the dorbar shnong and schools.”
In a two separate operations against drugs in Mizoram, the Assam Rifles and state agencies have seized over 1 kilogram of heroin worth around Rs 6 crore.
Meghalaya Police on Monday afternoon arrested two alleged drug dealers identified as M. Tuanbiaklian Guite, (32) and Imliakum Longkumer, (40) and seized 2.738 kg of heroin worth Rs 10 crore (approx) in the international market.
