Speaking to media persons, Sikkim police DIG Tashi Wnngyal said, "Today, the weather was good and we have rescued 430 people and helped them to come down to safe place. More than 200 people were airlifted and more will be done if weather permits."
At least 50 people have died and 142 persons remain missing in the devastating flash floods in Sikkim, which was triggered by glacial burst on the South Lhonak lake on Wednesday morning.
The search for the 16 Army men continues. Meanwhile, the Indian Army is providing assistance in terms of food and medical facilities and extending communication facilities to civilians and tourists stranded in North Sikkim.
Altogether, 23 soldiers of Indian Army had gone missing due to the flash floods. With the rescue of one soldier, the operation to locate and rescue other 22 soldiers is underway.
