As per source, an Anti-CAA rally was organised by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) in the daytime and it is suspected that some criminal elements may have taken advantage of the situation leading to the death of the two non-tribals.
The construction led by KSU’s Laban circle is a way of protest to send a message to the government that they would not allow any ‘illegal’ non-tribal to settle in the area.
The Khasi Students Union of the Nongpoh Circle met Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ri Bhoi, Arpit Upadhyay on Monday to apprise him of the complaints regarding the overcharging of school textbooks by handful of bookstores in Ïew Mawlong, Nongpoh.
In a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, president of the KSU Laban Circle Reuben Najiar said that there is a huge number of illegal settlers settling in the area without the consent or approval of the Dorbar Shnong Kenches Trace Oxford Rilbong or any appropriate authority for that matter.
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Monday said recent incident of highhandedness against a government officer underscores the urgent need for accountability and reform within the Border Security Force (BSF) to ensure such flagrant abuses of power do not recur.
This came after the union with the help of the Laban police had conducted inspection of the shelter home on December 28, 2023 following a video footage that went viral over social media platform exposing men and women injecting narcotic substances inside the home.
