After 10 days of Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) on Lhonak Lake, which caused flash floods on the Teesta basin in Sikkim and North Bengal, the threat of another GLOF still remains large because only 30 percent of water of the lake was discharged in the latest disaster.
At least 50 people have died and 142 persons remain missing in the devastating flash floods in Sikkim, which was triggered by glacial burst on the South Lhonak lake on Wednesday morning.
While maks shift houses of labourers in the area were swept away with any vehicles being damaged. Collectively, 3000–4000 people were evacuated from Rangpo last night before 2 a.m.
