The reports of fresh violence in the state comes as a major setback for the people of the state and government amid efforts to restore peace in the state.

Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala on Tuesday asked whether reports of Himanta Biswa Sarma and former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary Ram Madhav seeking the help of "Kuki militants" during the polls in the northeastern state were true and whether Prime minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had approved this.

Despite the recent condemnation and rejection of the Centre's peace committee by several Kuki tribal bodies, Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey visited the troubled district of Churachandpur, widely known as the Kuki heartland, on Monday.
