The state Cabinet has approved the appointment of Iamonlang M. Syiem as the new chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) even as the age limit has been increased to 70 years.
Taking a serious view of the harassment meted out to a Garo Hills missionary nun by a group of men in a public bus in Assam, last week, the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) on Friday condemned the unfortunate incident in Assam in the strongest of words and urged for a coordinated effort from both the Assam and Meghalaya governments to bring the culprits to book.
Speaking to reporters, Paul said the department is still studying their respective profiles before submitting its final recommendation to the State Cabinet for its approval.
“I came to know about my removal from the press only and after two press statements I got a show cause notice from the government. After that clarification from the Board, he (Paul) is still adamant to give that press statement which is incorrect,” Toi told reporters.
