The Vice Chancellor in-charge of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Prof. SM Sungoh, has written to Meghalaya DGP and requested withdrawal of police forces and CAPF personnel from the campus.

The North-Eastern Hill University Teachers' Association (NEHUTA) has demanded Professors S. M. Sungoh and Fameline K. Marak to resign from their posts as Pro Vice-Chancellors of NEHU's Shillong and Tura campuses, respectively. The association claimed that the appointments are illegitimate and in violation of NEHU statutes and government norms.
After officially writing to the North Eastern Hill University’s students’ union, teachers’ association and non-teaching association to work together peacefully towards the progress of the university, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice Chancellor, Prof P S Shukla, on Tuesday announced that Prof Sherwin May Sungoh has been appointed as the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Pro VC) of NEHU’s Shillong Campus.
A notification issued in this regard said that the State Education Commission shall come into force with immediate effect and its term shall be for two years.
