The Government of Meghalaya convened a meeting on Saturday through the office of the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District to discuss the proposal for establishing an 'Integrated Solid Waste Management Facility' in Nonghali. Stakeholders from adjoining districts, including East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills, and Ri-Bhoi were present.

East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner RM Kurbah on Thursday emphasised the importance of having disaster management plans at the family and community level besides urging people to refrain from violating the building byelaws.

The district administration of East Khasi Hills on Thursday prohibited deliberate burning of fires and unattended burning of forests that have the potential to cause wild/forest fires and damages to environment, property and loss of lives. 

In the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), the oath of office was administered to 29 members by East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah at the council’s hall in Shillong

The order said the plying of overloaded vehicles carrying more than 9 Tons has damaged portions of the road and poses danger and threat to villagers/pedestrians due to the narrow width of the road

In a letter submitted to the DC RM Kurbah on October 3, the aggrieved villagers said that many of them, who are living in the Mawryngkneng-Puriang village have parted portion of their land in 2007, wilfully to the government for the purpose of construction of four laning of the National Highway 44 and also, they were compensated for the land as valued by the government.

The order was passed by the district magistrate RM Kurbah after it had come to her notice that some organizations were planning to organize a Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat yatra in Shillong on October 2 and that the organizers did not seek permission for carrying out the yatra.

Meghalaya government on Monday retransferred Rosetta Mary Kurbah as the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of East Khasi Hills District with immediate effect as it effected a bureaucratic rejig.
