Amid growing concern over the disappearance of a tourist couple from Indore, Meghalaya Cabinet Minister A.L. Hek assured on Wednesday that Sohra remains a safe destination for visitors.
Cabinet Minister A.L. Hek, in charge of the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, visited Sohra on Wednesday to review the ongoing search and rescue operations for Sonam Raghuvanshi and Raja Raghuvanshi, a tourist couple from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, who went missing last week in the Sohra region, also known as Cherrapunji.
With over 4.4 lakh visitors recorded between October 2024 and May 2025, Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve has emerged as India’s third most visited wildlife park, marking a 35% increase from the previous year. Foreign tourist numbers alone jumped by 25%, highlighting the park’s growing global appeal.
