Prof. G. D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) and former President of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), played a pivotal role at the AIU East Zone Vice Chancellors’ Meet 2025–26, hosted by Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU), Patna, on December 22–23, 2025.

NEHU has been ranked 29th out of 51 Central Universities in the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) University Rankings 2025. The university achieved a total overall index score of 932.91.

The event expanded beyond the academic realm, featuring exciting sports and recreational competitions. Students competed in an Arm-Wrestling Championship, Gully Cricket, and Photography contest Picture Perfect. Additionally, gaming fans were thrilled with competitive gaming events such as Mobile Legends Bang Bang and BGMI.

NEHU is in the 150-200 band in the ‘overall HEIs’ rankings of 2024. In 2023, it was in the 101- 150 band of ‘overall’ category and 80th in the ‘university’ category; in 2022, in was again in the 101- 150 band of ‘overall’ category but was at 66th rank in ‘university’ category; in 2021, in was 90th in overall category and 59th in ‘University’ category; in 2020, 74th in ‘overall’ and 49th in ‘university’ category;
