In an effort to continue the work for Elephant Conservation and mitigate Human-Elephant conflict along the Assam-Meghalaya border villages, a meeting was held between the Wildlife Officials from Goalpara-Assam and East and West Garo Hills Wildlife Division, Tura.
The administration has announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 for any person who provides crucial information to the Magistrates or Police officials that leads to the arrest of key instigators or aids the district administration in their apprehension.
The meeting, aimed at addressing the demands of the protesting civil bodies, took a tumultuous turn when a group of agitated vested interest individuals in the crowd resorted to pelting stones at the CMO building and security personnel, and attempted to break open the gate on Monday evening.
The DDMA urged residents living in low-lying areas to stay alert and follow any evacuation instructions provided by the authorities in such situations.
Upon searching the suspects, the police found 14 suspected YABA tablets and a significant amount of cash in their possession. The arrests were made as part of the ongoing efforts to crack down on drug trafficking in the region.
