Chennai, Feb 12: Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi today walked out of the assembly without reading out the customary address to the House. Last year also, he had skipped the official speech prepared by the government.
Speaking in the house for barely two minutes, Ravi said that his repeated request to play the national anthem was ignored. “This address has numerous passages with which I convincingly disagree on factual and moral grounds. Me lending my voice to them could constitute a constitutional travesty, hence with respect to the House, I conclude my address. Wish this House a productive and healthy discussion for the good of the people. Vaazhga Tamil Nadu, Vaazhaga Bharatam, Jai Hind, Jai Bharat, Nandri,” he said.
The translation of the speech prepared by the government was read out by the Speaker M Appavu. The Governor did not wait for the national anthem at the end of the speech and walked out.
