Agartala, Nov 22: Trinamool Congress’ youth leader and Bengali movie actor Saayoni Ghosh, who was arrested earlier on Sunday for allegedly “disturbing” the Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb’s public meeting at the capital city Agartala, was granted bail by a local court on Monday afternoon.
The Additional Chief Judicial Megistrate and Civil Judge in Agartala granted bail to Ghosh who was arrested under non-bailable sections for charges of conspiracy of committing murder and spreading enmity in connection to a case at East Agartala police station registered by a local.
Ghosh, an influential leader in Bengal with a large fan following due to her acting career, had reportedly visited Biplab Deb’s road-side meeting at Agartala.
According to multiple sources, she had made the TMC’s iconic slogan, “khela hobe” there, that BJP supporters are claiming, was made to disrupt peace there.
Police in Tripura slapped charges on Ghosh for allegedly promoting enmity between people, attempt to murder, criminal intimidation and criminal conspiracy, apart from disrupting the civic poll rally.
However, Trinamool Congress general secretary Kunal Ghosh claimed that someone attending Biplab Deb’s rally spotted Saayoni Ghosh in a vehicle and greeted her with “Didi, khela hobe” and the youth leader replied with “haan, khela hobe.”
Ghosh’s arrest came a day before Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s scheduled roadshow in Agartala.
Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev claimed the motive behind Ghosh’s arrest in alleged ‘attempt-to-murder case’ was to disrupt Abhishek Banerjee’s rally. It is not immediately known if the Trinamool Congress leader’s roadshow continued as planned even though he was reportedly in Tripura’s state capital till the filing of this report.
