Tura, Nov 8: To ensure smooth flow of traffic and safety of all during the 100 Drums Wangala Festival from November 9 to 11, the West Garo Hills police has put in place traffic arrangements for the smooth conduct of the festival.
The festival, this year, is being held at Baljek Airport in Jengjal, about 30 kms from Tura town. The Wangala festival is traditionally held at Wangala A’dam in Chibragre. The venue had to be shifted because the approach road via Chibragre picnic spot has submerged due to rising water levels at the nearby Dam.
The traffic arrangements:
Parking Zones:
1. Parking for VVIPs – Baljek Airport Runway, Jengjal
2. Parking for delegates (officials) – Baljek Airport Runway.
3. Parking for 2 wheeler – 2 (two) parking spots designated near the venue
4. Parking for 3 & 4 wheeler – Baljek Airport Runway.
5. Parking for HMV/BUS only – Field near right side at the entrance of venue.
No-Parking Zones: NH-217 Baljek to Jengjal tri-junction is declared as No-Parking Zone.
Road Closures: Certain roads around the venue will be closed for vehicular traffic during the program on the day of the events. These closures are necessary to allow for the safe movement of pedestrians and event participants.
Public Transportation: The district police encourages attendees to utilize public transportation where possible to reduce traffic congestion.
Emergency Services Access: All routes for emergency services have been marked on the Traffic Arrangement Map. Please keep these routes clear at all times.
Use of Helmet: The use of helmets is imperative for both riders and pillion.
Age restrictions: For the protection of our young ones, it is strictly prohibited for individuals below 18 years of age to ride two-wheelers and cars.
Wearing of Seat Belts: It is obligatory for both drivers and co-passengers in vehicles to securely fasten their seat belts at all times.
Lane Discipline: To ensure a smooth traffic flow and avert potential accidents during the event, the police have urged the attendees to adhere to the rules of lane driving.
No Unnecessary Honking: The police have urged all motorists to refrain from unnecessary and disruptive honking at the venue. Honking should be used judiciously and exclusively to communicate vital information to others on the road.
Proper Parking: The district police has urged attendees to park their vehicles in designated parking areas as illegal parking can result in traffic congestion and road blockages during the event.
West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Abraham T. Sangma, further informed that the Police Department will have a dedicated team of officers, traffic personnel, and volunteers at the venue to ensure the implementation of these traffic arrangements.
