Tura, April 20: The District Football Association (DFA) conducted selection trials for U-14 (boys) and U-16 (boys) on Saturday to represent the West Garo Hills District team. This trial was held in preparation to scheduled Inter District Youth League.
The trails were held at the GBHSS Chandmari Football Turf, Tura, with an aim to identify the promising young talents. The trials exclusively focused on participants hailing from the West Garo Hills District Region.
More than 200 young aspirants, from both U-14 and U-16 category, from various corners of the Garo Hills region took part in the trials, and showcased their skills and determination to secure a spot. The selection was conducted by seasoned scouts of the District Football Association, who were keen on identifying the young talents.
This selection is divided in two phases. The players shortlisted on Saturday will again undergo the final phase of the scrutiny. The next scrutiny will be conducted on the 27th of April. The players who were not selected in this trial will also be second chance in the next trials.
Speaking to Hub News General Secretary, DFA, Gamcheng R Marak, said that, “we don’t want to discourage or demotivate the athletes who were not selected, as they came with high passion and they will be given a second chance”.
Marak also highlighted that The District Football Association along with the Meghalaya Football Association also plans to create similar opportunities for the female athletes in the near future.
The dates for the Inter District Youth League is yet to be disclosed but is speculated to start soon after the Tura Football League Super Division 2024.
