Training for Homestay owners in Garo villages to boost rural tourism begins

Tura, May 2: A 3-day training program on Homestay Operations & Management began in Tura on Tuesday. The training program aims to equip homestay owners of Garo Hills region with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide sustainable accommodations and promote rural tourism in the region.

The training is being organized by Global Himalayan Expedition in collaboration with West Garo Hills administration.

The training is being attended by 16 homestay owners from various Garo villages in Meghalaya, who will be taught various aspects of rural tourism such as accommodation, food, hospitality, and handicrafts.

Speaking to the reporters, Anupahok, a mountaineer and part of the specialized team for homestay trainers, emphasized the importance of establishing infrastructure in remote areas to create opportunities for income generation through tourism.

Darmen G Momin, the owner of Do.patchi homestay, also expressed gratitude for the training, saying that it will be very helpful in bringing development to tourism in the area.

The program is expected to benefit the local economy by providing income generation opportunities for the people in the region.
