Trauma centre at Nongpoh 75% complete, being used as COVID Centre: Rymbui

Shillong, Mar 11: Cabinet Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Friday informed the Assembly that the trauma centre at the Nongpoh civil hospital is 75% complete but is currently being used as a COVID centre.

Replying to the query by suspended Congress legislator from Nongpoh Mayral Born Syiem, who urged the government to operationalise the trauma centre within this year, Rymbui assured that the government will try to make the trauma centre operational as soon as the work is completed.

He informed that, at present, the physical and financial progress of the work is 75% completed, and the building is currently being utilized as COVID Centre, and it houses the district COVID laboratory.

“Let us hope this phase of COVID is over so that work can be taken up in full swing,” he said and added that its completion will take some time.

The total project cost is Rs 3.6 crore out of which Rs 2.40 crore is for equipment, Rs 2 lakh for communication and Rs 60,000 for others.

Earlier, raising the issue, Syiem said the trauma centre is one of the important projects which is lying pending for operationalization despite being located along the National Highway-40, which witnesses accident cases.
