Tripura: 7 dead, several injured after Chariot of Jagannath Rath Yatra catches fire in Kumarghat

Tripura, June 28:In a tragic incident, at least seven people lost their lives after Chariot of Jagannath Rath’s Yatra caught fire in Kumarghat of Tripura on Wednesday.

People inside the specially designed Rath mounted on a motor vehicle have died following the fire incident.

According to reports, the incident was reported after iron trust of the Rath touched a high tension wire near the Kumarghat Circle office and erupted into fire.

Reports also said that several people have been seriously injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, those who were pulling the rope were saved.

According to police, despite heavy rainfall since morning people had gathered to participate in the Ulta Ratra Yatra festival.

The injured were admitted to the hospital, where many of them are stated to be critical.

“As we were approaching with the Rath, somehow, it came into contact with a high voltage wire. Unfortunately, seven individuals lost their lives, with many others sustaining injuries,” said a police source.

Following the fire incident, CM Dr. Manik Saha Tweeted that he is on his way to Kumarghat from Agartala by train to inspect the place of occurrence where several people have lost their lives on Wednesday.
