Agartala, July 26: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said the state has undertaken a ₹1,400 crore externally aided project dedicated exclusively to the development of tribal areas.
He dismissed allegations of a financial crisis in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
Speaking at a felicitation programme for meritorious tribal students of Classes X and XII from NGO-run boarding houses, held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, the Chief Minister addressed what he described as “unnecessary” concerns regarding fund shortages in the ADC.
“There is no financial crisis in the ADC. Some people are unnecessarily raising this issue both in the Assembly and outside. I have clarified this before,” Saha said, indirectly countering repeated claims from Tipra Motha, an alliance partner in the TTAADC, which has accused the state of providing inadequate financial support.
Highlighting the state’s commitment to tribal welfare, Saha emphasized that the ₹1,400 crore project—sanctioned under an externally aided scheme—aims to transform ADC regions through focused development. “The Government of India under the leadership of our Prime Minister, along with the state government, is working sincerely for the welfare of Scheduled Tribes,” he said.
In addition to centrally sponsored programmes, the Chief Minister pointed to various state-led initiatives—some under his own name—targeting improvements in education, healthcare, road connectivity, and drinking water supply in tribal areas.
He also reaffirmed the government’s focus on preserving indigenous culture and identity, calling it a top priority alongside infrastructural development.
