Agartala, Jan 17: Tripura CPI-M, which is the opposition party in the state, on Sunday wrote a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kiran Gitte informing him about a closed-door meeting between a BJP Minister along with the Election officials. The CPI-M has demanded to conduct inquiry against the minister for holding closed-door meeting with election officials.

Ahead of the Assembly polls in Tripura, mudslinging between the political parties has started and each political party is leaving no stone unturned to defame the other.

Referring to a news item published on a daily vernacular, CPI-M state general secretary Jitendra Chowdhury wrote the letter to the CEO, complaining about the closed-door meeting of a BJP Minister with election officials.

“On January 14, Pranajit Singha Roy, Agriculture Minister along with Abhishek Debroy, Gomati District President of BJP called some designated election officials in a secret meeting at ‘Bhubaneswari’ room of Udaipur Circuit House. Prior to this meeting, as desired by the Minister, all other boarders of the Circuit house were asked to vacate the room and from noon on January 14, the circuit house was practically barred from the entry of any other persons except the persons selected to join this meeting,” the letter stated.

The CPI-M general secretary in the letter alleged that Minister Pranajit Sinha Roy had skipped his scheduled programme of the opening ceremony of ‘Tirthamukh Mela’ on the same day to hold this secret meeting.

Tripura is expected to go to the polls in one and a half months. The final electoral rolls were published on January 5 but the poll schedule is yet to be announced by ECI.
