Tripura: Former CM Biplab Deb’s ancestral home allegedly attacked, vehicles vandalised

Agartala, Jan 4: Unidentified people attacked priests outside the ancestral home of former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in Udaipur in Gomati district in Tripura late on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred at a time when a group of priests arrived at Deb’s residence at Rajdhanagar in Jamjuri area of Udaipur. The priests came to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP’s residence to perform a ‘Yagna’ in the annual Shradh ceremony of Deb’s father on Wednesday.

Several vehicles were badly damaged and few shops were set ablaze in Rajdhannagar under Jamjuri in Udaipur subdivision in Gomati district of Tripura on Tuesday evening.

Though police is yet to confirm the actual reason behind the incident, according to local sources it started over putting up of political party flags by the roadside in that area where a religious programme in connection to annual Hindu ritual of late father of Biplab Kumar Deb, former CM of Tripura, was supposed to take place on the following days in his ancestral home.

At that point of time, a group of priests from Hrishikesh had gathered there in few vehicles and were inspecting the arrangements for the ceremony next day during which windshields of their parked cars, a scotty and a bike were smashed.
