Tura DC directs Schools and colleges to remain closed on May 28 due to cyclone Remal impact

Tura, May 27: In the light of incessant rains lashing the Garo Hills since early Monday morning due to the effects of Cyclone Remal, the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani on Monday ordered that all schools and colleges in the district should remain closed on Tuesday, May 28th, as a precautionary measure.

Cyclone Remal hit landfall in the Bangladesh coast on Sunday night spreading heavy rains all across West Bengal, Bangladesh, Assam and Meghalaya, including other parts of the north east.

South West Garo Hills, nearest to the border with Bangladesh, through which the path of the storm has been moving, has witnessed the heaviest rains and powerful winds that have blown rooftops of houses in some places,flooded rice fields and brought down trees.

Tura is also witnessing the impact of the cyclone with treefalls and power cuts due to fallen electrical lines.

In West Garo Hills, the Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani has advised school authorities to compensate for May 28th closure with a normal day of class on June 1 (Saturday).
