Cyclone Remal to be most intense in Garo Hills from 10 PM tonight

Tura, May 27: Warnings have been given to the public to be alert and vigilant as the impact of Cyclone Remal is expected to be at its most intense between 10 PM to midnight,tonight.

“The Cyclone is expected to have most impact from now till 12 AM, with most effect around 10:30 PM, as per projections.

We have ordered closure of schools for tomorrow,” said West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani quoting data from the Indian Meteorological Department which is tracking the cyclone.

People in thatch houses advised to move to shelters

Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani has directed all presidents and secretaries of the development committees across Tura town to ask people from their localities who are living in kutcha or thatched roof houses to move to the nearest school or community halls for tonight in view of the cyclonic storm.

As per official reports, the cyclone is expected to have maximum impact at 11:30pm tonight and all Area Development Committees should take steps to shift the inhabitants of Kutcha houses to their Shelters or Schools or Community Halls identified earlier.

The cyclone will have landfall at the Bangladesh-Meghalaya border near Baghmara in the night between 11 PM to 11 AM, when the impact can be the most with heavy winds and rainfall.

Ensure to keep provisions of food and first aid kit for the community along with emergency supplies ready, advised the authorities.
