Tura, July 9: To ensure effective delivery of Central government schemes in South West Garo Hills, MP of Tura and Chairman of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA), Saleng A. Sangma on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting at the DRDA Conference Hall in Ampati.

The meeting was attended by DISHA members U.G. Sangma, Simberth Ch Marak, Learmilford A Sangma, and Manseng D. Sangma, along with senior district officials including Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak and ADC & PD, DRDA, RZD Shira.

During the day-long session, department heads presented updates on their projects and what has been achieved so far, they also discussed on the difficulties they face and what they plan to do next.

MP stressed the importance of active involvement by the departments to ensure that benefits reach the people on the ground. He assured that the concerns raised would be taken up with the relevant ministries in Delhi.

The MP flagged several issues: rising infant mortality and anaemia cases, lack of medicines at health centres, poor infrastructure at Ampati Civil Hospital and frequent power cuts.

Sangma asked MePDCL to explore new power projects to solve the electricity problem. He also questioned whether Anganwadi workers’ wages currently below labour norms had been revised by the ICDS department and called on the Agriculture department to focus on improving foodgrain yields.

The MP also praised the Fisheries department for producing surplus fish and encouraged them to explore markets outside the district and state.
