Tura, Aug 27: Fancy Valley Welfare Committee organised a silent candlelight vigil to seek justice for ‘Abhaya’ and honour her memory at Fancy Valley on Monday.
This candlelight vigil and peaceful protest was held to call for justice, symbolise hope, and pay respect to the departed soul.
The peaceful procession started from the puja premises at Fancy Valley at 8pm, passed through Beldarpara and circled back via SP Bungalow.
More than 100 people took part in the candlelight vigil, holding placards written with ‘we want justice’.
The rally comprised of mostly women from all age groups, young children and men from the locality
Speaking to Hub News, one of the women who participated in the protest rally said “Justice for her should be given at any cost and the persons involved in this kind of heinous crime should be hanged to death.”
Another protester said “I, as a woman, and when I came to know about such a heinous crime I was first shocked and then I felt like it happened to me. It’s totally unacceptable and death sentence should be given.”
When asked about how safe they feel in Garo Hills and Tura, many women felt relieved that they could go out of their home even at night and felt very secure.
