Shillong, Dec 12: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Thursday inaugurated a new tourist spot at Lapalang–Wah Rymben, a key attraction in the Ri-War Mihngi region.

The event, held at the Lapalang football ground, was organised by the Dorbar Shnong Lapalang and the Lapalang Tourism Development Society and attended by Nongskhen MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri.

Tynsong urged the village authorities to develop additional facilities to strengthen tourism and create local income opportunities. He encouraged residents to utilise the government’s ₹10 lakh homestay scheme, under which ₹7 lakh is provided as a grant and ₹3 lakh through bank financing. A waste-collection vehicle for the village was also launched.

After the programme, Tynsong and local leaders visited Wah Rymben to inspect the river, its surroundings and the ongoing fish conservation efforts, which include a ban on fishing that has led to a rise in fish populations.

Residents said the new tourist spot is expected to boost footfall and support livelihood opportunities in the area.
