Dibrugarh, Feb 26: United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA Independent) cadre Arunjay Bora alias Ujjal Asom surrendered before Tinsukia police on Tuesday.
After relentless efforts of Tinsukia police, Bora laid down his arms and surrendered before police.
Bora, a resident of Tekeri village in Pengeri, Tinsukia laid down arms at Ritukathalguri bringing an end to his association with the banned militant outfit.
According to reports, Bora had joined ULFA(I) in 2018
His surrender marks another step in the ongoing efforts by security forces to curb insurgency in Assam and facilitate the reintegration of former militants into mainstream society.
“We are happy that Ujjal Asom has returned to the mainstream. For many days, he tried to contact us but after that we got an information and through our network, we have contacted the cadre and done all possible measures for his surrendered,” said a police official.
Meanwhile, Assam police has been taking all possible measures to bring back the youths who have joined the proscribed organisation ULFA(I).
