Umsning MDC Macdalyne S Mawlong joins NPP

Must read

Shillong, Feb 22: KHADC MDC from Umsning Macdalyne S Mawlong on Tuesday formally joined the National People’s Party (NPP) in the presence of NPP national president and chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and NPP national vice president Prestone Tynsong at the party’s main office in Shillong. The party also welcomed Martin M. Danggo, the former Meghalaya Speaker and former MLA from Ranikor Constituency, and Manstudy Nongrem, the former CEM of KHADC and former MDC of Langrin Constituency, to its fold.

Welcoming the new leaders into the party, a visibly happy NPP supremo Conrad K. Sangma said it is wonderful to see the family grow with the coming together of like-minded people to work for the state. He also underscored that Macdalyne’s entry into the party will add a great variety of thoughts and ideas to the overall think-tank of the party, especially on issues relating to women empowerment and youth.

At the same time, he recalled the formative days of NPP when it wasn’t viewed with enough credibility. “Many doubted the existence of NPP and felt we wouldn’t survive even a year. The party didn’t let criticism put us down but we became tougher and stronger as a party,” said Sangma.

The national president also reminded the leaders that their purpose is to serve the people. “As leaders we must have our ears and feet on the ground. Take decision based on consensus which we have been doing,” exhorted Sangma.

On the other hand, Tynsong announced that the newly joined Umsning MDC Macdalyne S Mawlong will contest from Nongpoh and former Speaker Danggo will contest from Ranikor in the upcoming Meghalaya Assembly polls of 2023.

He also added that Nongpoh block and Ranikor block committees will need to be restructured for the upcoming polls.
