Guwahati, Jan 11: One villager was killed in a firing incident near Assam-Manipur border at Finel basti under Jerighat police station in Cachar district on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as David Rongmai of Finel basti of Cachar.

According to sources, three miscreants entered their village and fired at David. After firing at David, the three of them fled from the area.

David was rushed to hospital but doctors declared him brought dead. Cachar police and security forces reached the spot and have started the investigation.

“Right now, we can’t say much about the incident because our investigation is at preliminary stage. We have statement from the villagers and as per law we will go into the case,” said a police official.

Meanwhile, the villagers protested the killing of David by holding placards.
