Imphal, Sep 3: Colonel (retired) Nectar Sanjenbam has been appointed as senior superintendent (combat) in the Manipur police department for a five-year tenure by the state government.
Nectar Sanjenbam, who played a key role in India’s surgical strike in Myanmar in 2015, will help the Manipur government tackle Manipur situation, which has claimed over 170 lives since tension began in the state on May 3.
The order issued by Manipur’s joint secretary (home) on August 28 said that the appointment was made after the cabinet decision of June 12.
Who is Nectar Sanjenbam?
Nectar Sanjenbam has served in the 21 Para (Special Forces).
He was also awarded the Kirti Chakra, the second-highest peacetime gallantry award, and the Shaurya Chakra, the third-highest.
Sanjenbam is said to have displayed unusual prowess in taking down the sentries at the militant camps that were raided during the strikes.The officer is cited as having taken down at least 6–8 sentries, who were then guarding the camps.
Manipur Violence
Tension that has prevailed in Manipur since May 3 has been a cause of concern for the state and central governments.
The violence has resulted in numerous casualties and the displacement of people from their homes, where over 170 people have lost their lives.
