Shillong, June 1: The Governor of Manipur today appointed Rajiv Singh as the DGP, Head of Police Force and P Doungel was appointed as OSD(Home).
According to an official order by the Ministry of Home Affairs P Doungel was replaced by Rajiv Singh as the DGP.
The order also read that Rajiv Singh, IPS (TR: 93) should take charge of the post of DGP, Manipur from P. Doungel, IPS (MA:87) immediately upon joining the State Government.
Who is Rajiv Singh?
Rajiv Singh is a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Tripura cadre.
He is from the Tripura cadre and was posted as IGP CRPF.
Rajiv Singh was sent to Manipur on inter-cadre deputation for three years.
According to sources, he is likely to be given a key responsibility for handling the prevailing situation in Manipur.
The decision of transfer comes at a time when Home Minister is on a four day visit to Manipur. He also said that a high-level Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will probe the six incidents of violence in Manipur that hint at a conspiracy.
Manipur has been hit by ethnic conflict since violence broke out in the state on May 3.
Officials said that the death toll from clashes since the violence began has gone up to 80.
